The sixth edition of the Canadian Awards, hosted by the photographer Yousuf Karsh and held at the Kent cinema in Montreal in May 1954, highlighted the most important films of the year 1953. This Universal newsreel shows Gratien Gélinas accepting the award for best film of the year for Tit-coq. Gordon Sparling’s important contribution to Canadian cinema was also celebrated during the evening’s ceremonies. Those in attendance included the mayor of Montreal, Camillien Houde.
