The Second World War primed the Canadian economy and helped it put the Depression years behind it. Many civilian industries were re-directed towards military production. Demand for labour increased and, to meet the scarcity, women became increasingly active on the labour market. Here women are shown working on an assembly line producing munitions for the Allied forces.
