This film by Maurice Proulx was commissioned by Quebec’s premier of the day, Maurice Duplessis, who was quite unhappy with the NFB film Îles-de-la-Madeleine made by Jean Palardy in 1952. Proulx’s film made in response highlights the natural beauty of this picturesque archipelago and describes the importance of fishing, the main commercial activity on this island community.
